IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM

PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAM
The goal of our Pre-Kindergarten program is to provide an opportunity for our children to learn and grow spiritually, physically, and emotionally within a nurturing and loving environment.

Spiritual Development is promoted by creating an awareness of God, fostering knowledge and practice of the Gospel values of love and charity toward others, helping the children speak to God through prayer, and providing a Christian atmosphere within which to learn.

Cognitive Development is facilitated through the use of all senses, development of critical thinking and problem solving skills, listening skills, development and the ability to follow directions, as well as development of fine and gross motor skills.

Socially/Emotionally, our goal is to foster a healthy self-esteem; to develop independence, self-control, and tolerance; to foster cooperation and sharing with others; to develop effective communication skills; and to enhance each child’s unique gifts and talents.

Thematic Units are planned throughout the year to provide language as well as hands-on learning experiences that facilitate development of age-appropriate skills.  Some of these skills include color, shape, numeral and letter recognition, as well as application of each within the child’s environment.

Daily, the children participate in music and movement activities, create using various art media, and listen to/retell rhymes, finger plays and stories.  They also visit learning centers (art, math, science, language, dramatic play, building/construction, pre-writing (fine motor), computer) throughout the day.

Once-A-Week, Pre-K attends class with the Physical Education teacher and visits the librarian.  Bi-weekly they attend Music class.

Our program has been designed to be a social as well as a beginning academic experience.

Day Care is available for the Morning session only.  The “Y” van will pick up at 11:45 and transport the child to the Towson “Y”.  You will pick up your child from there.  Lunch is NOT provided by the “Y”.  For cost, call the Towson “Y”: 410-494-7778.   No Day Care for the Afternoon session.
