Socially/Emotionally,
our goal is to foster
a healthy self-esteem; to develop independence, self-control,
and
tolerance; to foster cooperation and sharing with others; to develop
effective communication skills; and to enhance each child’s unique gifts
and talents.
Thematic
Units are planned throughout the year to provide language as well
as hands-on learning experiences that facilitate development of
age-appropriate skills.
Some of these skills include color, shape, numeral and letter
recognition, as well as application of each within the child’s
environment.
Daily,
the children participate in music and movement activities, create using
various art media, and listen to/retell rhymes, finger plays and stories.
They also visit learning centers (art, math, science, language,
dramatic play, building/construction, pre-writing (fine motor), computer)
throughout the day.
Once-A-Week,
Pre-K attends class with the Physical Education teacher and visits the
librarian. Bi-weekly
they attend Music class.
Our
program has been designed to be a social as well as a beginning academic
experience.
